Job Details:

Assure a healthy and comfortable Hospital environment through the proper operation, control and maintenance of steam-generating equipment and other minor repairs of Hospital equipmentand or any other duties as directed to maintain compliance. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manipulates valves to control the flow of water and fuel to increase or decrease steam pressure.

  • Adjusts equipment controls to correct malfunctions when indicated by observation or in response to warning lights, horns or bells.

  • Inspects boiler room observing the operation of equipment meters and gauges, compares findings to defined specifications.

  • Maintains operating logs which include: fuel consumption, steam produced, blow-down time and meter readings.

  • Records readings from bulk tanks of medical gases; performs rounds as assigned.

  • Performs minor repairs and maintenance of boilers, i.e., replacing gaskets, tightening joints, repairing valves, repacking pumps, etc.

  • Performs other minor repairs on Hospital campus as assigned, or in resonse to erquests from staff on weekends or 2nd/3rd shifts.

  • During snowstorms, responsible for sanding/salting of major roads on Hospital grounds and shoveling and sanding/salting of major pedestrian entry points to buildings.

  • Completes required paperwork properly, using computer technology enhancements, as required; fulfills annual mandatory employee testing.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 3-5 years boiler operation and maintenance experience preferred.

    EDUCATION

  • Less than High School; must read and write English

    LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Apprenticeship or related trade school training or other directly related work experience.

    OTHER

  • Valid New York State Driver's License

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

  • Extremely heavy physical effort (lift/carry 50-lbs or more). Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking. Lifts supplies/equipment. Manual dexterity and mobility. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching. Frequent work while on ladders, scaffolds, etc.

    OTHER PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Occasional exposure to infections and contagious diseases. Subject to electrical and radiant energy hazards. Occasional exposure to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment. Occasional exposure to odorous chemicals and specimens. Occasional exposure to hot or noisy equipment. Occasional exposure to hazards of steam and heat. Handles absentee replacement on short notice. Occasional exposure to extremes of heat and cold in all weather conditions. Occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals.

  • Subject to many interruptions. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours. Frequent pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.

  • Considerable manual dexterity required, the ability to use a wide variety of hand tools, pliers, screwdrivers, wire cutters, drills, power tools, saws, wrenches, etc.
