Description

Burns and McDonnell is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Estimator specializing in Transmission, Distribution, and Substation projects, with a strong emphasis on self-perform construction. As a key member of the team, The Senior Estimator will play a crucial role in accurately estimating costs, assessing project feasibility, and contributing to the successful execution of Design-Build and EPC electrical infrastructure projects.

  • Estimation Expertise: Develop accurate cost estimates for Transmission, Distribution, and Substation projects, considering materials, labor, equipment, and other relevant factors.

  • Material Takeoffs: Conduct meticulous manual and digital material takeoffs from engineered plans and sections, ensuring precision in quantifying required materials and components for project execution.

  • Self-Perform Construction Focus: Leverage expertise in self-perform construction methodologies, identifying opportunities to maximize efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness in project execution.

  • Project Evaluation: Analyze project specifications, blueprints, and other documentation to assess project scope and determine resource requirements.

  • Collaborative Approach: Work closely with cross-functional teams including engineers, project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather essential information and ensure comprehensive estimations.

  • Cost Analysis and Optimization: Conduct thorough cost analysis, identifying areas for cost savings, value engineering, and alternate solutions without compromising quality.

  • Bid Preparation: Prepare comprehensive bid proposals, ensuring accuracy, competitiveness, and compliance with project requirements and industry standards.

  • Risk Assessment: Evaluate potential risks associated with projects and provide mitigation strategies to minimize financial exposure.

  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with industry trends, market conditions, and technological advancements to improve estimating techniques and processes, including enhancing proficiency in digital tools for material takeoffs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or related field and 7 years of direct project estimating experience.

  • Applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.

  • Proven ability to work autonomously and efficiently in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision.

  • Proficiency in construction estimation software (e.g., HCSS, Sage Estimating, Bluebeam) and MS Office Suite.

  • Strong understanding of electrical construction practices, codes, and regulations related to Transmission, Distribution, and Substation projects.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Ability to adapt to changing project needs and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail

  • OSHA 10-hour certification Required

This job posting will remain open a minimum of 72 hours and on an ongoing basis until filled
