Optical Tooling Tech 4 is an advanced position focused on the manufacture of inserts for optical component manufacturing to support product development and discovery. An understanding of design principles, G&M code and machining principles is required to develop innovative solutions that can translate novel insert designs into functioning lathe programs.

Key Responsibilities :

  • This position seeks collaboration and interaction with multiple engineering groups including lens design, tooling design, injection molding, and product development in the application of the design-build-test development process.

  • Develops processes, equipment and workstreams to enable new product development regarding advanced optical designs, precision surface tolerances and enhanced optical component quality.

  • Applies technical skills to understand, communicate and resolve technical challenges.

  • Performs optical and dimensional measurements to interpret component quality attributes.

  • This position is expected to be a lab owner and to train and develop junior technicians, and performs other related duties as assigned by management.

  • As a lab owner other key responsibilities include but are not limited to: Maintaining the Tooling Development area in compliance with ISO/GMP standards, Safety and Quality initiatives including periodic inspections and observations. Meets quality and productivity goals established by management. Adheres to environmental policy and procedures and supports department environmental objectives; actively manages and maintains current chemical inventories, diamonds, blanks, PM schedules for lab equipment.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A minimum of high school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • 2 years college in a technical or vocational training in advanced manufacturing and machining concepts is preferred.

Required:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the tooling environment with CNC programming experience OR a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering with CNC programming experience

  • Physical demands of this position require Stooping, Crouching, Walking, Pulling, Light Lifting (Up to 23 lbs.), Grasping, Hearing, Visual Acuity, Kneeling, Reaching, Pushing, Talking, Standing, Sitting, and Inside Environmental Conditions.

  • Strong communication, organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks working in an empowered team environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Diamond Point Turning Lathes, Interferometer, Laser Micrometer, and Surface Profilometer.

  • Ability to work with trigonometry calculations.

  • 2D drafting (AUTOCAD) and 3 modeling (SOLIDWORKS) is highly preferred.

Other:

  • 10% travel (domestic/international).

  • Ability to work at the Jacksonville, FL site.

For U.S. applicants, in accordance with applicable disclosure requirements, the anticipated base pay range for this position is $62,000 to $88,000. This role is Non Exempt. The pay range is the anticipated pay range for the position to which you have applied, and that such factors, including but not limited to, internal equity and experience will be considered for any offer.
