Material/Process Tech IPerforms routine material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and at points of supply. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Material/Process Tech IIPerforms routine and non-routine material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and at points of supply. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Material/Process Tech IIIPerforms advanced material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and at points of supply. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Material/Process Tech IAssists in maintaining equipment.Informs plant personnel of material or production problems and rejects substandard material.Inspects materials at point of supply to ensure materials conform to Department specifications.Maintains a diary of inspection or test details.Performs routine material tests and inspects manufacturing processes and plant equipment in a manufacturing plant to ensure materials conform to Department specifications as required moves material samples.Prepares inspection or test reports.Receives training in material specifications and inspection procedures and techniques.Records test data on worksheets and performs calculations to convert raw data into specific units of measurement.Secures, logs in and prepares samples of raw materials or manufactured materials at various stages of production for testing.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Material/Process Tech IIIncludes all essential duties for Material/Process Tech I as well as:Inspects manufacturing processes and plant equipment in a manufacturing plant or inspects materials at point of supply to ensure materials conform to Department specifications.Maintains and assists in calibrating equipment.Maintains inventory of test supplies.Reports test results to field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems.Travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses and project sites to monitor status of programs, meet with supervisors and managers to resolve problems and perform unannounced inspection of operations.Conducts nuclear density tests on subgrade, base and asphaltic concrete pavement.Specializes in testing a particular type of material.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Material/Process Tech IIIIncludes all essential duties for Material/Process Tech I and II as well as:Independently performs advanced material tests, inspects manufacturing processes and plant equipment in a manufacturing plant or inspects materials at point of supply to ensure conformance to Department specifications.Maintains and calibrates equipment.Performs tests and inspection duties.Investigates compaction problems associated with hot mix asphaltic concrete.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
