Heritage Environmental Services, LLC Consumer Products Technician/Driver in Hayward, California

27-29 per hour | Hayward, CA, USA | Hourly | Tech Services - Hayward | Full Time

Primary Purpose

Under direction, the purpose of the position is to provide assistance in the coordination and collection of consumer products, including hazardous and non-hazardous waste and materials for our customers. This position oversees various tasks, including collection, handling, and transporting waste or materials. The position will ensure supporting documentation of consumer product waste is processed and all material or waste is handled safely.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Ensures Health & Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.

  • Implement waste segregation and by-product management processes for consumer products at Heritage customer locations.

  • Prepare, package, and segregate consumer products or materials for shipment at customer sites.

  • Must be able to drive a straight truck to customer sites to provide services and pick up of waste products

  • Determines and loads supplies needed for job completion and travels to various customers to perform consumer product pick-ups and services.

  • Develop good client relations by effectively communicating with customers and provide exceptional customer service while performing pick-ups. Assist customers on troubleshooting and correcting record keeping inconsistencies and service concerns.

  • Support all solid waste disposal, recycling initiatives and programs and assist with setting up these where applicable.

  • Prepares for daily trip by inspecting vehicle and equipment, fueling truck, and ensuring all equipment is in excellent order. If maintenance is needed determines and assists in scheduling required items.

  • Document waste volumes on designated check sheets and forms viable to the consumer products management programs.

  • Follows proper placarding, manifesting, and load segregation requirements when transporting hazardous materials.

  • Basic understanding of hazardous waste generation, management practices, shipping, and related procedures.

  • Understanding of D.O.T. requirements, manifests, and shipping papers as it applies. Maintains a logbook for D.O.T. compliance and follows all D.O.T. and Heritage regulations and policies when operating company vehicles.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education: High School Diploma or its equivalent required. College degree and/or coursework preferred. Must have had previous basic chemistry courses. Background with environmental or chemical experiences preferred.

Experience: Minimum Class B CDL with HazMat endorsement is required. Class A CDL preferred. 40-hour HAZWOPER training preferred, but will be trained after hire, if needed.

Knowledge and Abilities: This is a safety sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function. Ability to understand RCRA, DOT and OSHA regulations. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts in both verbal and written communication methods. Basic computer skills. Must meet Heritage Driver Qualifications. must be able to pass Motor Vehicle Record search to company standards. Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions. Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages. Requires the ability to communicate with work groups and individuals on waste management procedures. Requires the ability to apply principles and exercise judgment. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
