CITY OF GREEN BAY Mechanic in GREEN BAY, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Inspects and performs the full range of mechanical repair and overhauls for all Metro equipment and vehicles, including components and systems, such as engines, transmissions, brake systems, air conditioning systems, electrical systems, and their components. Conducts preventative maintenance inspections for all Metro vehicles and equipment, as required. Straightens surfaces, fabricates and applies repair materials, prepares surfaces, primes and applies finish paint. Uses general and specialized hand tools and power tools such as power sanders, drills, a variety of specialized air-powered tools, and welding equipment. Makes difficult diagnostic decisions regarding Metro vehicles and equipment. Responds to trouble calls. Diagnoses problems and makes necessary repairs. May assist in the training of other mechanics. Makes reports, verbal or written, pertaining to work activities on shift. Ensures cleanliness and safety of the work area and garage equipment. Assists in snow removal and facility maintenance as needed. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent. 2 years related mechanical experience. Must possess a valid driver\'s license with an excellent driving record and the ability to obtain a Wisconsin Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement within 3 months of hire. Thorough knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems common to transit vehicles. Knowledge of hand tools and power tools utilized in transit vehicle repair. Skill in inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing a wide variety of transit vehicle mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components. Skill in performing complete engine, transmission, and related vehicle component overhauls. Ability to read and interpret schematics, electrical wiring diagrams, service manuals, and other reference materials. Ability to utilize a computer and the required software, including diagnostic software. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.
