Colorado Mesa University Environmental and Custodial Services Weekend Supervisor in Grand Junction, Colorado

Summary: The Weekend Supervisor for Environmental and Custodial Services oversees weekend operations of the custodial services department and supports campus environmental compliance activities. The role aims to maintain a healthy, safe, and clean campus environment consistent with the educational mission of company. This role specifically focuses on managing and enhancing custodial and environmental services preparing for the weekend shifts and during weekend shifts. Ensuring a well-maintained and compliant campus environment, this supervisor will report Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday during normal business hours.

The Custodial Supervisor will perform responsible supervisory work involving the assignment and direct supervision of custodial employees in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of buildings, offices, classrooms, fitness centers, laboratories, furnishings, and equipment as well as building entrances and exterior walkways.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

Plan and direct the daily operations of multiple custodial units, (weekday and weekend crew) to include: Responsible for organizing, scheduling, assigning, and performing daily work routines. Establish weekend work schedules, assign work orders, and set standards for completing work. Directs staff in the preparation of campus events taking place during the weekend days. Provides input to the Environmental and Custodial Manager. Shares information with the Environmental and Custodial Manager and building stakeholders to ensure details are provided regarding weekend events. Proactively handle any arising issues and troubleshoot any emerging problems on the event day. Conduct pre- and post - event evaluations and report on outcomes. Work with staff pre and post events to ensure duties are explained. Provide customer service support during weekends for faculty and staff to ensure adequate custodial service. Assign work to lead and Custodians via the University work order management system and ensure subordinates are tracking employee productivity through said work order system. Responsible for training new employees in proper custodial procedures for the use of electrically powered machines, cleaning compounds, solvents, and chemicals. Advises the Environmental and Custodial manager on the condition of university buildings and facilities by conducting regular inspections of those areas and reporting the results of the inspections with particular emphasis on needed repairs. Develops an effective team of custodial personnel by instructing all employees in the proper methods and use of materials and equipment for safe and efficient work performance. Hold staff accountable by making sure that they achieve the goals you have agreed to and the standards and deadlines you have set. Evaluates individual performances to meet established standards, providing required performance evaluations on custodial personnel and make recommendations regarding the retention of new employees. Provide documentation to support recommended corrective and disciplinary actions. Maintain space inventories using the APPA 3 Level of Service Guidelines for all campus buildings to bring about increased operational efficiencies and to recommend appropriate staffing levels during weekends. Maintain custodial equipment inventories, life expectancy and replacement costs of items used during the weekend events. Establish cleaning frequency (daily, monthly, annually) schedule for all campus buildings used during events and determine the appropriate amount of time spent on each task within a building during weekends. Oversee orientation and training schedules for the weekend staff members. Implement team building exercises for weekend staff. Assists in hiring qualified employees by participating in the interview process and making recommendations regard ng the employment of applicants. Authorize and monitor the expenditure of funds and the use of resources during weekends. Stay abreast of changes in technology and techniques and maintain expertise on new and improved cleaning instruments and methods. Order custodial supplies and chemicals using the university's ordering platform. Conduct special studies, maintain records, and prepare reports for department use. Oversee safety and training programs and processes to ensure compliance with departmental, state and federal rules and regulations. Ensure compliance with OSHA, fire department and other governmental agency regulations and other regulatory compliance. Contributes to the overall success of the assigned department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with significant supervisory experience or the ability to demonstrate an equivalent combination of education, certification, and/or experience. Must have a working knowledge of custodial equipment and the safe use and application of cleaning chemicals. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and a work order system software, such as School Dude.
