Amentum Fire Protection Engineer 3 in Englewood, Colorado

Amentum is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer 3 to be based in our Englewood, CO location. Although the position is based out of our Colorado office, Amentum is open to this position being filled remotely with the right candidate that has excellent communication and time management skills. This position will Perform a variety of engineering assignments in planning and overseeing research, development, design, manufacture, test, installation, operation, and maintenance of diverse electronic/mechanical equipment and systems and generally as a member of a design, analysis or review team on more complex assignments or as a lead on less complex assignments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a range of design development, analysis or review tasks under minimal supervision.

  • Act as a lead on less complex tasks and responsible for a portion of a design or section of an analysis or design review.

  • Generate complete design specifications of more complex projects.

  • Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.

  • Establish and maintain a filing system or databases as needed for tracking project status.

  • Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.

  • Direct interface and liaison with customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.

  • Conduct site visits, experimental investigations and analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.

  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.

  • Support development of technical proposal and provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work.

  • Develop engineering deliverables, scope of work, budget (engineering hours) and schedule

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related , or related scientific field and at least 5 years of job-related experience or equivalent.

  • Must be willing to become registered in fire protection by exam

  • Must have experience in major aspects of industrial fire protection and life safety, and major codes and standards, including:

  • NFPA suppression system standards (water, foam, foam-water, gaseous)

  • NFPA alarm system standards (including air aspiration)

  • DOE and DOD

  • API

  • ICC

  • FM Global Data Sheets

Special hazards, including:

  • Electric generating plants (hydroelectric, fossil fuels)

  • Facilities handling nuclear materials

  • Battery energy storage systems

  • Flammable and combustible liquids

  • LNG and LPG

  • Explosions and deflagrations

  • Existing facility evaluations

  • Fire hazard and risk evaluations / analysis

  • Fire modeling

  • Life safety (NFPA, IBC/IFC, OSHA)

  • Performance based design

  • Hydraulic analysis

Computer skills:

  • Hydraulic analysis software (e.g., HASS, HydraCALC)

Communication skills:

  • Must be able to communicate complex ideas clearly and in a manner readily understood by stakeholders outside the fire protection profession

  • Must be able to write clearly and succinctly

  • Must be able to engage stakeholders (client, authority, management) in discussions related to fire and life safety issues and clearly communicate

Managerial skills (senior and mid-level):

  • Must be familiar with Earned Value Measurement System (EVMS)

Good communications and analytical skills; working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs.

Position may require travel.

Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance

Due to nature of the work, candidate must be US Citizen.

Compensation & Benefits

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $80K - $125K (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
