Amazon Sr. Applied Scientist, AGI - Structured Information Retrieval in El Segundo, California

Description

Do you have experience working with NLP, knowledge graphs, or search systems? Do you want a chance to use cutting-edge technologies and work in close collaboration with applied scientists and engineers to deliver value to millions of customers?

As a Sr Applied Scientist (Sr AS), you do novel research to improve our graph search solution. You will be able to launch fast and iterate quickly, while publishing your work to external venues. Your team's work will be immediately seen by millions of AGI customers.

Key job responsibilities

  • Research novel modeling techniques to move the state-of-the-art forward

  • Participate in the design, development, evaluation, and deployment of data-driven models and analytical solutions for machine learning (ML) and natural language (NL) applications

  • Collaborate with software engineering teams to integrate successful experimental results into complex Amazon production systems

  • Work backwards from customer needs and use that information to make trade-offs between different modeling approaches

  • Report results to technical and business audiences in a manner that is statistically rigorous and compellingly relevant, exemplifying good scientific practice in a business environment

  • Drive best practices, helping to set high scientific and engineering standards on the team

  • Promote the culture of experimentation and applied science at Amazon

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of applied research experience

  • Experience in building speech recognition, machine translation and natural language processing systems (e.g., commercial speech products or government speech projects)

  • 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience

  • PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience

  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with popular deep learning frameworks such as MxNet and Tensor Flow.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
