HealthPartners is hiring for a Central Laboratory Supervisor (evenings).The Central Laboratory Supervisor is responsible fordirect supervision of the assigned laboratory staff. Responsible for the development and implementation of training & competency programs for assigned staff. Duties include the hiring, scheduling, daily oversight, safety, coaching and discipline of staff members as well as yearly performance evaluations. Participates as a member of the Central laboratory and HPMG leadership teams. Reports to Central Laboratory Manager. ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1. Assesses and Meets Customer Needs for Pre-Post and Analytical Services Assesses needs of physicians, nurses, and lab staff for information on laboratory services Provides needed information on general and technical areas of the laboratory service to customers in a respectful and timely manner Assists in interpretation of lab results in absence of lab technical specialist Demonstrates the ability to apply theory to practical work (i.e. has the knowledge of the clinical significance of the test and reason for performing it) Assesses and troubleshoots registration, data entry or processing errors and follows up appropriately with staff members, providers, and appropriate lab technical specialist Understands computer applications necessary for the laboratory team to perform functions throughout the lab testing process. Effectively communicates laboratory test and specimen requirements as well as lab results to clinicians and other hospital personnel as needed. 2. Oversight of Central Laboratory Operations Responsible for the supervision of staff, including having the authority to hire, transfer, lay off, promote, discipline and discharge, train, reward and review performance of employees. Ensures compliance to organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Knowledge of all the primary functions within the laboratory to ensure laboratory testing is safely and consistently performed within defined accreditation standards. Assists testing staff with pre and post analytical questions performs comprehensive assessment of laboratory testing from the placing of an order to the reporting of the final result. Serves as a resource for the troubleshooting of methodologies, instrumentation and processes in the absence of lab technical specialist In collaboration with the appropriate technical specialist, supervisor or manager, participates in the implementation of new testing processes, methodologies or instrumentation. Assesses Workflow and adjusts staffing as needed to meet expected Turn Around times and service level agreements Oversees processing and any other duties as assigned to the Central Lab team. Responsible for the hiring, discipline and evaluations of assigned staff Assists with the assessment of resources (i.e. staff, supplies, workload) to reach an attainable financial goal that is simple, efficient, timely, affordable, and provides best care and best experience for our patients. 3. Ensures Patient Safety through Quality Services Organizes and participates in the Quality assessment of Incident Reports efficiently and timely Works with laboratory staff members, Quality Management and under the direction of the Laboratory Leadership Team, to troubleshoot problems and complaints, to identify opportunities for improvement, and possible solutions Actively supports and participates in performance improvement activities Adheres, defines, and enforces the safety requirements for performance of laboratory testing Follows Central Laboratory polices for the management of a major events (i.e. disaster, fire, and tornado). Assists in CAP accreditation management and oversight of CAP requirements. 4. Manages projects as assigned Determines project goal(s) and objectives Coordinates resources needed to meet timelines Develops measurement and follows through with outcomes Works collaboratively within the laboratory, with other departments and other laboratories within the Hea thPartners system. Other duties as assigned. 5. Creates a Healthy/Safe work Environment for Staff Assumes responsibility for other Laboratory operations teams in the absence of their Laboratory Leadership Works in collaboration with Leadership teams to develop and organize education programs for technical and support services Creates a healthy, safe, and inclusive environment by treating all staff with dignity and respect Oversees Central Laboratory safety plan including review of all safety processes and procedures and performing safety audits at least twice per year in compliance with OSHA and CAP regulations. Enforces compliance of healthy workplace behaviors according to laboratory and organizational policies. 6. Establishes and maintains effective, collaborative working relationships with the other Laboratory Leadership team members, other health care teams and across the organization Participates as a valuable member of the Central Laboratory Leadership and HPMG lab leadership team Demonstrates team building skills by working collaboratively with all Laboratory teams to ensure best Laboratory practices Collaborates with the lab leadership team to develop and implement orientation, education, and competency assessment tools for staff and students in all sections of the Laboratory Coordinates the dissemination of information and compliance for regulatory requirements for the laboratory operations Collaborates with appropriate laboratory leadership team or other health care team to develop and write procedures as needed Collaborates with laboratories across the HealthPartners system to ensure standardization of work processes as appropriate. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science or Clinical Laboratory Science; NCA, ASCP or equivalent certification. Five years of recent experience working in a clinical laboratory setting. Thorough knowledge of laboratory regulatory requirements (CLIA, COLA, CAP.OSHA, etc.), including clinical application of those regulations, quality and continuous improvement. Proven skills and experience with Electronic Medical Record, Laboratory Information Systems and associated technology applications. Proven project management skills and knowledge. Proven computer knowledge and ability, including skills with Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Visio, etc. Proven Leadership skills such as partnership/collaboration, coaching/development, engagement, healthy communication, outcomes driven & critical thinking, integrity, and tolerance of ambiguity and flexibility to changing system needs.
