Position Summary

The Madzima Lab (https://www.thelmamadzima.com) utilizes a systems approach, that integrates molecular, genetics, genomics and computational approaches to understand the mechanisms of epigenetic regulation in response to abiotic stress stimuli in crop plants. Research is primarily conducted in Zea mays (maize) and includes comparative analysis with other crop plants such as millet and sorghum. The successful applicant is expected to utilize a broad range of modern approaches to answer fundamental and potentially applied research questions in crop systems.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated scientist with expertise in one or more of the following fields: genetics, genomics, computational biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or plant physiology. The successful applicant should also have strong writing and communication skills and be able to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary and diverse research team.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be expected to design and perform laboratory and greenhouse/field experiments, perform the associated data analysis and prepare manuscripts for peer-review and publication as well as participate in grant and report writing. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will collaborate with researchers at MSU and at other institutions. This position may require some travel for research collaboration purposes, fieldwork and to present research findings at regional, national and international conferences.

Required Degree

Doctorate -plant biology, genetics, molecular biology

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must hold a PhD in a field related to plant biology, genetics, molecular biology, genomics/bioinformatics, or a similar field. Applicants must have received their PhD within the past three years.

Desired Qualifications

Expertise and proficiency in one or more of the following is desired: genetics, genomics, computational biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or plant physiology. The successful applicant should have strong writing and communication skills and be able to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. Experience in conducting greenhouse, growth chamber, or field experiments is also desired.
