Position Summary

The Department of Teacher Education at Michigan State University is seeking outstanding candidates for a fixed-term (non-tenure stream) faculty position in world languages teacher preparation.

Major responsibilities for this position include:

  • Teaching and planning courses at the undergraduate level for the World Languages certification
  • Providing a professional learning community for doctoral student instructors of the World Languages courses
  • Developing and conducting orientation and professional development for school district mentor teachers.
  • Supporting the design and implementation of new courses for the World Languages licensure area
  • Supporting instructors of WL courses with research-based literature and teaching resources
  • Supporting the revision of WL coursework and assignments
  • Developing and supporting relationships with community organizations for undergraduate students' clinical placements
  • Maintaining and supporting continuous communication with WL mentor teachers
  • Supporting the Licensure Area Leader and Course Coordinator in tracking students' progress, analyzing data from course assessments, and writing progress reports for the WL licensure area

Required Degree

Doctorate -PK-12

Minimum Requirements

Advanced degree in education with a focus on secondary education. Appropriate PK-12 teaching experience and relevant college-level teaching, specifically in world languages or bi/multilingual education; demonstrated commitment to social justice teacher education; demonstrated commitment to working as part of a team; excellent communication and leadership skills.   

  • Assistant Professor must hold a terminal degree. 
  • Instructor must hold a master's degree or have been employed as an instructor or equivalent elsewhere.
Desired Qualifications

Doctorate is preferred, but outstanding candidates with a master's degree and exceptional experience will be considered. Appropriate PK-12 teaching experience and relevant college-level teaching, specifically in secondary education; experience working with teaching interns and PK-12 district partners and community organizations; experience guiding masters and doctoral students in curriculum and instruction in secondary teacher education
