Description:

Position Purpose

The X-ray technologist assume responsibility/accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to these patients via therapeutic use of self, the radiology equipment, the environment, and other health care team members. The ages of the patients served range from adults to geriatric.

What You Will Do

  • Responsible for assessing, intervening, co-coordinating and providing direct patient care by utilizing critical thinking skills.

  • Communicates with physicians, nurses, ancillary caregivers, patients and families regarding the patient’s plan of care.

  • Performs an assessment including physical, psychosocial, nutritional, functional, safety, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs.

  • Assists in the care provided by the nurse and other health care team members.

  • Makes decisions regarding the patient status, immediate needs and care.

  • Provides patient and family education.

  • Maintains knowledge of equipment and continuously learns new technology and can trouble shoot equipment, performs preventative maintenance according to manufacturer’s recommended schedule and reports malfunctioning equipment and ensure its repair and return to service.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently registered by A.R.R.T., active State of Iowa Public Health permit practice.

  • Must be BLS certified within 3 months of hire.

  • Must be ACLS certified within one year of hire.

  • Prior special procedures training preferred.

  • Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills.

  • Must be capable of problem solving, critical thinking, and assessment of patient conditions.

  • Must be able to demonstrate basic computer skills in a Windows environment.

  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
