Graybar Vice President Strategic Planning in Clayton, Missouri

Purpose

The Vice President Strategic Planning will work closely with the senior leadership team to develop and deploy the Company’s strategy in support of the continued growth and profitability of the Company. In collaboration with key partners across the organization, ensure alignment, measurement, and reflection upon the implementation of strategic priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage strategy development processes to manage and evolve the Corporate Strategy – designing the “Where to Play”, “How to Win”, and Core Capabilities needed to deliver the corporate aspiration.

  • Conduct periodic reviews with the senior leadership team to evaluate current market and competitive intelligence to identify adjustments and enhancements to the corporate strategy.

  • Serve as a thought leader to create ideas for consideration by the senior leadership team (i.e., investment business cases, new growth opportunities, new markets, new customers, projected trends, successful internal best practices, etc.)

  • Oversee a small team of analysts and partner with the senior executive team to translate the corporate strategy into business plans, targets, and strategic portfolios.

  • Work with the senior executive team to identify and execute a portfolio of strategic initiatives and projects that deliver desired growth, transformation, capability development, and value creation.

  • Own the execution of priorities designated by the Senior Vice President, Strategy and Business Development in the Graybar Marketing Plan.

  • Oversee the project management office, which sets project management practices, tracks and reports portfolio progress, and works with project managers to scope, define, and execute strategic initiatives.

  • Oversee the Company’s Innovation Lab and pipeline to lead sound future business concepts on a path towards further consideration and future implementation.

  • Interface with all internal departments on a regular basis to gather insights, assist with projects, and participate on cross-functional teams.

  • Provide learning opportunities and coaching to the team, to build analytics and strategic capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years’ relevant experience as a strategist, ideally from a strategy consulting firm or a large company; proven track record of leading cross-functional teams, including external advisors, on strategy deep dive projects

  • MBA or Four-year degree in Finance, Business, or related field

  • Experience with innovation teams, accelerators, centers of excellence, incubators, or outposts strongly preferred

  • Advanced Excel knowledge

  • Working knowledge of corporate financial statements and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • Full cycle project management skills

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to design and run market competitive and regulatory insight programs

  • Strategy development skills

  • Group facilitation, public speaking, and moderating skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt messages to a broad range of audiences

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Ability to author complete investment theses including comprehensive financial models

  • Ability to work in diverse environments and work independently, on teams, and in matrix organizations

  • Ability to influence all levels of leadership and interact collaboratively with diverse audiences

  • Ability to apply common strategy frameworks, and synthesize quantitative and qualitative information to support complex business hypotheses

  • Ability to use data to drive decisions
