Summary:

Sponsored by the Rush University Medical Center’s Rush Education and Career Hub (REACH), MedSTEM is an intensive academic enrichment program designed to introduce teens to a variety of careers in STEM/healthcare and provide them with opportunities to earn industry-recognized credentials. Students will engage in hands-on learning to strengthen communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

REACH needs enthusiastic Instructor Assistants to help unleash the potential of our youth. Your primary duties will be to provide learning support for teens, community-building, and assistance to the lead teacher. The MedSTEM Instructor Assistant should be committed to the development of meaningful relationships with teens through giving constructive feedback to help them learn and achieve.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required with current enrollment in a bachelor's or master's degree program.

●Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills

●At least two years’ experience working with the youth

●Academic major/degree in science, public health, social sciences or health care a plus

(Background check required for all staff)

Tentative Program Hours:

• Mondays: Either 9:00 – 12:00pm or 1:00 – 4:00pm (depending on the supporting course)

• Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays: 8:15 am - 4:45 pm (depends on courses taught)

  1. Please note there will be four (4) trainings required for instructors and support staff in May/June.

a. CPR: Saturday, June 8, 2024 (Time: TBD)

b. Kagan Training: Saturday, June 15, 2024 (Time: 8:30am-4:00pm)

c. Staff Orientation: Wednesday, June 11, 2024 (Time: 3:00pm-5:00pm

d. TA Only Workshop: Thursday, June 13, 2024 (Time: 1:00pm- 4:00pm)

• Attendance required in-person for orientation(s) for Pathways (Interns) Friday, June 14th and Explorers (Pre-Interns) Friday, June 21st

• All Interns are required to be trained on Canvas

• College Interns will be paid $16.04 an hour for 22-26 hours a week.
