This position is eligible for a Hybrid work schedule operating out of branch office 3 days a week, with 2 days working remotely. Candidate must be located within reasonable commuting distance to 4500 Morris Field Drive in Charlotte.

Job Summary:

The Rental Product Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for overseeing the New Product Development (NPD) and Lifecycle Management (LM) processes for a portfolio of rental equipment products. This crucial role prioritizes understanding and meeting customer requirements, adhering to budget constraints, and upholding safety standards. In the NPD capacity, the Rental Product Engineer identifies customer needs and budget limitations, leading the product design, sourcing, manufacturing, and implementation processes. On the LM side, collaboration with procurement, technical support, operations, and sales teams is essential for maintaining and enhancing equipment offerings to address market demands and achieve business objectives. Serving as a key liaison between Trane Rental Services and production/engineering teams, this role guarantees seamless alignment with Trane's product development roadmap, enabling the swift and effective delivery of cost-efficient rental solutions to the market.

Responsibilities:

As a Rental Product Engineer, you will have the opportunity to assume the following responsibilities during your onboarding, setting the stage for your growth and development in this role:

  • Effectively manage and oversee rental product design and development processes from initial concept to final implementation.

  • Provide valuable support and guidance to the Engineering Manager in developing short-term and long-term product strategies.

  • Manage the lifecycle of existing products by updating documentation, training materials, and maintenance plans and assessing the fleet for necessary upgrades or phase-outs to meet evolving customer, market, and regulatory demands while aligning with PGT's growth and profitability strategies.

  • Lead the creation of new technical documentation, testing protocols, training programs, product support resources, and maintenance plans, including technical assistance, spare parts management, and performance assessments.

  • Offer engineering expertise to facilitate modifications, sales of used equipment, upgrades to TRS facilities, and special purchases to fulfill rental agreements.

  • Conduct thorough research and analysis of current industry trends and market conditions to drive innovation and develop new products.

  • Collaborate with the Business Development team to prepare reports and presentations.

  • Engage with vendors and suppliers to establish product regulations and standards while conducting rigorous quality control checks.

  • Foster strong communication and collaboration with internal engineering and manufacturing teams to align product strategies, promote shared objectives, and secure support for rental-specific needs.

  • Proactively address vendor delivery delays to ensure adherence to defined timelines, as outlined in the Annual Operating Plan (AOP), to support organizational growth goals.

  • Contribute to Lean/Operational Excellence (OpEx) initiatives by leading and participating in projects and Rapid Improvement Events and providing process and informational support to OpEx teams.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred).

  • 5+ years’ experience in product engineering and design. HVAC industry is a plus.

  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) preferred / Professional Engineering (PE) is a plus.

  • Project Management / Agile experience is a plus.

  • Comprehensive understanding of HVAC equipment and systems operation, heat transfer, and fundamental HVAC system design best practices

  • Experience designing HVAC equipment and systems and creating 3D designs.

  • Experience creating plans, P&ID, control systems, electrical schematics, engineering specifications, technical literature, etc.

  • Product development experience

  • Excellent computer skills: MS Office Suite, CAD (2D & 3D)

  • Ability to travel up to 20%

Base Pay Range: $90,000 - $110,000 /year
