The MITRE Space Intelligence Systems Department is looking for a Principal System Engineer / Project Lead who wants to drive innovative solutions, thought leadership, and evidence-based recommendations so the Intelligence Community (IC) can deliver the benefits and services our Mission Partners depend on to make a positive impact in the world.

Roles & Responsibilities:

MITRE is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Lead with software development, data design, and architecture knowledge to lead our work with the National Reconnaissance Office’s Ground Directorate (GED).

As Project Leader, you will work with the five GED Program Offices to

  • define impactful mission outcomes,

  • define stakeholder decisions to support those outcomes, make actionable recommendations, and deliver data driven technical products and prototypes.

  • accountable for overall direction, technical quality, resource planning, internal and external coordination, execution, and outcomes of MITRE work associated with GED.

  • key responsibility will be staffing the project and ensuring that the right talent is supporting the tasks, ensuring quality products, and successfully deliver the work program.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Top Secret/SCI clearance and possess or be willing to obtain a polygraph.

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a technical equivalent and 8 years of related experience.

  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal communications, including verbal and written abilities in breaking down a complex big picture into usable components; capturing requirements and design information; translating across stakeholder communities to enable effective coordination of technical and programmatic information to influence government leadership decisions; coordinating action among distributed engineering teams consisting of government and contractors.

  • This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • TS/SCI with polygraph endorsement.

  • Degree in Engineering with emphasis on data engineering, or related technical field such as engineering, physics, mathematics, operations research, engineering management, computer science, or related STEM program.

  • A working understanding of space systems and how they interact with ground systems.

  • A working understanding of:

  • Cloud design/architectures

  • Cloud engineering

  • Migration of legacy systems to cloud operations

  • Software engineering and software development

  • Agile methodologies

  • Database systems including NoSQL technologies as well as RDBMSs

  • Application and operating system security hardening

  • LDAP and PKI enablement

  • Containers

  • Current and emerging Data-centric software development technologies

  • Prior professional experience in the US Intelligence, Space, or Defense Community.
