Biologics Discovery is an integral part of the Janssen Therapeutics Discovery organization. We are committed to delivering high-quality drug candidates in partnership with all Janssen Therapeutic Area (TA) discovery organizations. We can accomplish our mission by building deep expertise in large molecule end-to-end discovery such as Antibody discovery, protein engineering and optimization, molecular attribute characterization, target protein & expression sciences, and platform biology/in vitro pharmacology/assay development. Our success also depends on close partnerships with internal and external organizations in a matrix environment.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our organization as Director. This position will require candidates to possess deep knowledge of large molecule immunogenicity risk assessment. Using a mix of internal and external resources, this role will collaborate with key partners in the TAs and other internal groups to support portfolio advancement, implementation, and evolve strategy in immunogenicity risk assessment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide scientific leadership in immunogenicity risk assessment for Therapeutic Discovery.

  • Lead matrixed cross-functional immunogenicity risk assessments on all protein portfolios to develop and deliver outstanding biotherapeutics for all Therapeutic Areas.

  • Design and implement strategies to ensure delivering best-in-class biologics for our patients.

  • Leverage clinical development experience to further refine and work toward increased confidence in immunogenicity risk mitigation during discovery phase.

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with external partners, including academic collaborations and industry experts, to demonstrate external expertise and drive innovation.

Qualifications

Education:

  • PhD with 10 years in Biologics, Immunology, or the Vaccine field with a focus on protein immunogenicity risk assessment is required.

Experience and Skills:

  • Demonstrated leader with proven patents and publications in the field of immunogenicity risk assessment is required.

  • Proven experience in computational tools for in silico assessment and designing and applying in vitro immunogenicity risk assessment assays such as DC activation, MAPPs, T cell activation, and others to help characterize and rank molecules at appropriate discovery stages is required.

  • Demonstrated expertise in biotherapeutics discovery, including antibodies, multispecifics, and cytokines is required.

  • Strong communication, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of developing and implementing successful scientific decisions is required.

  • Demonstrated leadership success in a heavily matrixed environment is required.

  • Ability to travel domestically up to 10-25% annually is required.
