The Regional Volunteer Boards Director collaborates with colleagues to ensure the fundraising success of Lahey Hospital & Medical Center (Lahey), Winchester Hospital, Beverly/Addison Gilbert hospitals, Anna Jaques Hospital, and Mount Auburn Hospital. The Director will spend approximately 65% of their time supporting the Governance and Nominating Committee and Philanthropy Committee of Lahey’s board of trustees and the Lahey Clinic Canadian Foundation, including supporting the annual nomination of board candidates, preparing committee and board meeting materials, and securing trustee annual fund gifts, as appropriate. In addition, the Director will support Lahey’s President’s Council to identify and recruit new members, encourage attendance, and conduct follow-up and communicate between meetings. Approximately 35% of the Director’s time will involve supporting the northern regional VPs with their hospital’s Governance and Nominating Committee and Philanthropy Committee activities.

Job Description:

  • Responsible for the growth and management of volunteer philanthropy committees, including working with colleagues to develop strategic communication with members at and in between meetings.

  • Develop and execute a strategy for internal philanthropy committees. Develop agendas and recruit and prepare presenters for meetings. Encourage attendance, conduct follow-up and communicate between meetings.

  • Support the Governance and Nominating Committees of the boards of trustees. Organize meetings, develop agendas, and actively manage all follow-up. Oversee the annual identification of potential new board members in order to develop annual slates that increases the diversity of the each board. Assist with new board member onboarding.

  • Support and manage the activities of the Philanthropy Committees of the boards of trustees. Organize meetings, develop agendas, and actively manage all follow-up. Where appropriate, coordinate fundraising assignments and outreach efforts by committee members. Foster engagement and work with broader philanthropy team to recruit new members.

  • Focus front-line colleagues on securing annual gifts from members of all committees and boards. Ensure all committee and board members have a targeted annual ask and an effective longer-term fundraising strategy.

  • Help prepare fundraising updates and assist in the production of quarterly fundraising reports to the boards of trustees.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required.

Experience:

  • 5-8 years related work experience required.

  • Minimum of six years of experience successfully soliciting gifts and meeting quantified individual and team goals within a development department of a hospital or related non-profit organization, or seven+ years of relevant, transferable professional experience.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required.

  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Board relations and event management experience a plus.

  • Decision Making: Ability to make decisions that are guided by general instructions and practices requiring some interpretation. May make recommendations for solving problems of moderate complexity and importance.

  • Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are varied, requiring analysis or interpretation of the situation using direct observation, knowledge and skills based on general precedents.

  • Independence of Action: Ability to follow precedents and procedures. May set priorities and organize work within general guidelines. Seeks assistance when confronted with difficult and/or unpredictable situations. Work progress is monitored by supervisor/manager.

  • Written Communications: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.

  • Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.

  • Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.

  • Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.

  • Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
