Essential Job Duties:

The classroom teacher must be a relationship-first educator who is expected to provide students with age-appropriate instruction designed to promote the full development of students, intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically. Major responsibilities include: classroom management, curriculum development based on specific objectives, long and short term lesson plan preparation, knowledge of subject material, student evaluation, development and maintenance of parent/teacher and student/teacher relationships, participation in professional development activities and contribution to building and charter-wide educational programs and goals.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students in accordance with Charter and/or building goals and objectives.

  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

  • Develops a positive classroom learning environment that is student-centered, conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity, ability and interest of students.

  • Manages student behavior through the use of educationally sound methods and management systems designed to develop behavior which demonstrates respect for self and others.

  • Communicates the established objectives and expectations to students and maintains high expectations for student outcomes which are consistent with the Charter's goals of mastery.

  • Assesses the individual accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as established by Charter policy, regulations and building procedures.

  • Confers with colleagues, students and/or parents as appropriate.

  • Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning, instructional goals, objectives and approaches.

  • Assists the administration in implementing all Charter policies and/or building regulations and procedures governing student life and conduct.

  • Attends scheduled meetings; serves on Charter and building committees.

  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, by Charter policy, regulations and building procedures.

  • Communicates with parents and appropriate building staff on pupil progress and maintains accurate and complete records.

  • Assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials in cooperation with other staff and parents as outlined in established adoption procedures.

  • Accepts responsibilities for educational activities assigned.

  • Utilizes and cooperates with resource personnel as appropriate in meeting stated objectives.

  • Attends departmental and staff meetings as requested.

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes and extra classroom assignments and responsibilities as designated.

  • Provides for own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars and conferences.

  • Performs other duties as required by Charter Administration.
