POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under supervision of the Program Director, the Cook is responsible for food preparation and meal planning for kitchen at the Program. This position will adhere to all policies, procedures and regulations set forth to ensure client safety and compliance. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities as defined by the ADA to perform the essential functions of the job.

The pay is $15.80 - 21.00/hr (depending on experience)

KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Reviews menus and assembles supplies and equipment for daily food preparation

  • Follows nutritional guidelines when preparing meals

  • Participates in the preparation and presentation of food/beverages for all special functions

  • Assures food is ready for service at the specified service times

  • Attends and participates in staff meetings

  • Practices proper storage techniques, i.e. wraps, dates, labels, rotates, all food items after use, following the F.I.F.O. method

  • Obtains necessary items to meet cook's needs

  • Prepares and cooks breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day

  • Prepares all weekend meals during the week so that minimal prep time is required during the weekend

  • Assists residents in developing and increasing skills associated with independent food shopping

  • Ensures that all ovens, stoves, steamers, etc. are emptied and turned off

  • Organizes refrigerator, freezer and storage areas

  • Maintains work areas in a clean, sanitary and safe condition

  • Handles food and equipment in accordance with the regulatory agencies and H.A.C.C.P guidelines

  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma/GED required, Associate Degree preferred

  • Food Handlers certificate required

  • Ability to work within a team of professionals in a culturally diverse environment

  • Ability to multitask and to work and function independently

  • Bilingual Spanish Required
