Position Summary:

Under the general direction of the EKG Supervisor and Coordinator, EKG technician performs a variety of duties involved in performing electrocardiograms, transferring to digital system, Assist with stress testing and monitoring vital signs.

This is a per diem position

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible in providing the following services to all age groups including neonatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric population;

    -electrocardiograms -24 hour and 30-day records, -assisting with stress testing and monitor vital signs
  • Performs a variety of duties involved in the performance and preparation for interpretation of EKG and Holter monitors from outpatients and inpatients of all ages (newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric) upon request or as assigned. Assists in stress testing and monitors vital signs during and post test. Performs accurate patient identification requisition verification, labeling and documentation.

  • Must participate as team member, meet daily at Huddle and promotes hospitals continuous improvement efforts.

  • Promptly responds to all calls, pages and other requests for services, facilitating timely performance of EKG procedures. Effectively adapt to change or unusual circumstances.

  • Maintains EKG cart, supplies, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly manner. Ensures appropriate inventory level to perform duties.

  • Meets productivity standards, completing all tasks and assigned work by end of shift.

  • Proficiency in the use of Hospital System and the application to perform a variety of clerical duties accurately including entering/editing patient requisitions, receiving EKGS orders and tests during downtime procedures.

  • Maintains annual departmental age-specific competencies on all test procedures performed.

  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.

    BASIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/APTITUDE/EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires a minimum of one-year hospital experience to be proficient in duties. EKG experience is required.

  • Must be able to take vital signs.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Must be able to reasonably make appropriate judgment in communications and actions with patients, physicians, other associates, outside agencies, and vendors.

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required
