Description

Bell Nursery is seeking a Cost Accountant to support our Live Goods business in Bridgeton, NJ. This position will collect, analyze and report on cost accounting data. This includes preparing standard cost reports, reviewing existing purchases, cost comparisons, monitoring inventory levels, product costing analysis, tracking variances, making journal entries and maintaining the internal control structure in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX). The role encompasses supporting the business units efforts to achieve the overall Company's goal of delivering profitable growth and maximization of working capital. Leadership and collaboration with other members of the finance and cross-functional teams is paramount to achieving objectives. This position will report to the Controller of the Live Goods business unit.

Measures of Success:

  • Analyzing production costs, preparing reports comparing standard to actual
  • Developing overhead and variance analysis reports comparing actual to budgeted costs
  • Maintain and manage overhead absorption forecast model, submitting forecast and ensuring data integrity and accuracy; seek to improve model with end goal of ease of maintenance and enhanced visibility
  • Pricing new products by developing unit standard costs and projecting expenses
  • Participate in physical inventory counts to ensure accuracy
  • Provide support and guidance to the operations and finance teams to identify and recommend cost savings or improvements
  • Perform monthly closing activities, including analysis of accounts and preparation of journal entries
  • Prepare special projects as requested by management
  • Provide support in both the external and SOX audits
  • Play a key role with establishing, implementing, and documenting accounting policies and procedures
  • Participate in the design and implementation of tools and systems that help achieve greater insight into the financial results of the business
  • Lead and participate in special projects and initiatives
  • Foster strong working relationships with peers and management in order to develop efficient and effective cross-functional relationships
  • Other duties as required to assist the department needs
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required, CPA or CMA a plus
  • Manufacturing industry or CPG company a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel (Pivot tables and XLOOKUP's), SAP or comparable ERP system strongly preferred, Business Central Dynamics a plus
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to handle a variety of tasks as well as problem solve with the ability to work independently
