  • Performing non-clinical inpatient care-coordination in order to assist resident physician providers.

  • Increasing efficiencies leading to improved hospital bed utilization by facilitating early morning discharges.

  • Coordinating both interdepartmental and intradepartmental inpatient activities that occur during/after daily rounds within the department based on currently approved policies and procedures recognized by the Hospital.

  • Functioning as an integral member of the health care team under the direction of the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Division and the Boston Combined Residency Program.

  • Participating in daily morning rounds with the inpatient care team (including attending physicians, residents, nurses, nurse practitioners, and medical students) where roles include facilitating coordination between team members (e.g., scheduling rounds with the inter-professional care team), notifying nurses of the timing of rounds, scheduling interpreters prior to rounds, and updating daily physician contact information

  • Facilitating the management plans for each patient as discussed during rounds

  • Scheduling inpatient and future outpatient tests, consultations, and follow up appointments as stipulated during work rounds

  • Obtaining outside records, laboratory data, and imaging from other hospitals and institutions, including newborn screen results

  • Calling pharmacies to confirm outpatient prescriptions and determine need for prior authorization

  • Submitting and tracks requests for computer and phone service and support

  • Assisting in coordinating family and team meetings, including booking rooms when necessary

  • Collaborating with all members of the inter-professional patient care team, including social work and case management

  • Participating in departmental quality improvement efforts and research (including data collection), in order to facilitate efficient delivery of the highest quality care

The Medical Team Associate must have the following:

  • The knowledge of medical terminology and other theories, principles, and concepts typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Science. A minimum of one year of experience in a related role is preferred.

  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Windows and Office and ability to train in and use various aspects of the electronic medical record, including PowerChart and Patient Inquiry.

  • Strong attention to detail, with ability to function proactively and anticipate needs of physicians and/or patients.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents and the rest of the inter-professional team.

  • Advanced communication skills in order to persuade and negotiate with others on important matters.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to effectively balance diverse skill sets and perspectives.

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently and effectively

  • Compliance with all national and hospital regulatory guidelines such as HIPAA requirements, and the highest ethical standards, particularly related to integrity, honesty and confidentiality.
