Department Summary:

MITRE's Nuclear Weapons and C2 Platforms Department is seeking a System Security Engineer to provide expertise and support to the most critical challenges our sponsors and their missions face. We provide technical guidance through rigorous modeling, simulation, and analytical methods to enhance program decision making and risk management. Our main sponsors possess the policy, warfighting, organizational, and program responsibilities within the Air Force Nuclear Enterprise.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise within MITRE and within our sponsor organizations to ensure delivery of safe, reliable, and effective weapon system, while considering a broad range of factors to include operational requirements, cybersecurity, mobile force integration, and human systems integration.

  • Cultivate strong, trusted working relationships with our sponsors by understanding their needs and helping them solve their toughest problems.

  • Lead and contribute to technical products that enable data-driven decisions and result in impactful mission outcomes.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, cybersecurity, or related discipline with minimum of 5 years of related experience; or Master’s degree and 4 years of experience; or 3 years’ experience and Doctoral degree.

  • Exceptional oral, written and communications skills to effectively present technical material, and advise SAOC MITRE Team and potentially other stakeholders.

  • Experience working in collaborative team environments.

  • Broad cyber knowledge across technical areas to include software, hardware, cloud computing, aircraft / avionic systems, and IT networks and systems.

  • Ability to self-organize with minimal oversight.

  • Working understanding of the Department of the Air Force System Security Engineering Cyber Guidebook (DAF SSECG)

  • Working understanding of the Department of Defense Cybersecurity Test and Evaluation Guidebook

  • Experience working DoD acquisition programs.

  • Experience interacting with multiple levels of Government and Military leadership.

  • General understanding/familiarity with NC3 Systems and Architectures

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working understanding of NIST SP 800-53r5 and / or NIST SP 800-160v2r1

  • Experience with Cyber Table Tops (TTXs), red team operations, and / or adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs).

  • Experience conducting research and analysis to drive technical recommendations.

  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DoD Top-Secret clearance.
