Sonic Drive-In Manager, Data Governance Steward in Atlanta, Georgia

We are serious about Data Governance and consider it an integral part of how we manage data as a strategic business asset. As the Manager, Enterprise Data Steward, you will join the recently established Data Governance Office within the Data & Analytics organization, partnering with business, technical, and data stakeholders to establish the organization, processes, and tools for a complete view of mission-critical datasets that leverage the full power of data to support an enterprise vision in a coordinated way.

This position sits in our Atlanta Support Center, with an expectation to be onsite 80% of the time.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accountable for the cross-journey data architecture from a business perspective – i.e., ensures a clear understanding of Systems of Record for specific attributes or attribute groups and drives the vision for data sharing and data flows to support a long-term shared vision.

  • Prioritizes data processes needed to support business objectives.

  • Documents a Process-Application-Data-Organization (PADO) view of data across the key business processes and associated systems, to drive a business view of how data is created and consumed in the organization – which ultimately drives business decisions for those processes.

  • Oversees the detailed process design work (Levels 1-4) for data processes.

  • Collaborates with the IT data architecture team to provide business insight/priorities across the data flows and system landscape.

  • Collaborates with business or brand teams on data-related matters.

  • Participates in Data Governance councils and subcommittees to bring data impact perspectives and proactive insight into their group’s scope, vision, and feasibility.

  • Oversees the impact analysis for data definitions and processes across the brands/lines of business to assure business continuity and standardization.

  • Partners with the technical team to prioritize the approach and timing for automated data lineage.

  • Guides cross-domain, cross-brand data architecture requirements, provides input into data standards and data usage in relevant systems and ensures end-to-end data flows are being planned and managed.

  • As a leader in the broader Data Governance team, you work closely with the Data Governance Lead and the Data Alliance Manager.

  • Hires and manages Data Governance resources as the team grows.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4-Year degree in Business, Management Information Systems (Information Technology and Information Systems), Computer Science, or a related field is required.

  • A graduate degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, or Data Science is preferred.

  • 5+ years of related experience in management information systems, IT, or process improvement.

  • 5+ years of experience with data management and data governance tools and processes.

  • 5+ years of experience understanding complex application data flows across multiple applications and systems.

  • 5+ years of experience with project management and associated methodologies, including Agile.

  • 3+ years of experience as a product manager who has helped stand up data platforms, bringing together data from variety of sources for downstream use in business analysis.

  • 3+ years of experience working directly as a Data analyst or equivalent role.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, or ABILITIES

  • Expert knowledge of data management frameworks and data models.

  • Expert knowledge of data flows and the impact of data throughout the system landscape from creation to consumption into downstream business systems and data lake/data warehouse environments.

  • Expert in relevant data standards and industry trends.

  • Proficiency with data governance skills, approach, and associated tools (e.g., lineage, data catalog).

  • Proficiency at managing relationships across business and technical stakeholders.

  • Able to collaborate at the nexus between business, data and technical visionaries, and analysts.

  • Able to assess and facilitate the impact of change – data processes, data design/flows, and data definitions.

  • Familiarity with cloud-based architecture (i.e. Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform).

  • Knowledge of data warehouses (i.e. SQL Server, Redshift, Snowflake, Oracle), reporting design tools (i.e. Tableau, PowerBI), and data engineering processes (i.e. ETLs, APIs).

  • Understands analytical application development tools and frameworks.

  • Strong writing and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of restaurant management is a plus.
