City Of Arvada Custodian - Seasonal (Arvada Center) in Arvada, Colorado

Position Purpose Performs custodial work to ensure that buildings are safe, clean, and pleasant to work and visit within the Arvada Center.

Please Note: This is a seasonal (June- September), non-benefited position. This position will be required to work weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) from 2:00 to 11:00 PM. Job Functions / Scope of Authority

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Locks and unlocks doors in buildings according to daily schedule.

Cleans and maintains floors throughout buildings carpet shampooing, waxing floors, and cleaning all furnishings.

Maintains all aspects of cleaning of building and preventive maintenance of office furniture.

Maintains custodial equipment, stocks and organizes custodial closets. Cleans and fuels city vehicles.

Responds to emergency request and cleans and sanitizes the area as needed.

Disposes of trash from trash cans located in city buildings.

Maintains ceramic floors, carpets, strips and waxes floors, cleans offices, windows, and ensures a uniform appearance.

Moves office furniture and set up classrooms.

Maintains and repairs custodial equipment and furniture.

Demonstrates a respectful attitude towards customers and coworkers that promotes teamwork, open communication, and effective customer service.

Acts with the customer in mind, responds to requests promptly and provides effective services or solutions for customers.

Exercises appropriate level of initiative and judgment to make decisions within the scope of assigned authority. ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of all custodian equipment: vacuums, buffers, shampoo machine, chemical disbursement machines.

Knowledge in the proper utilization of all custodial equipment and chemicals. Proficient in utilizing a variety of tools used in cleaning.

Proficient in the initiative and judgment as well as making decisions in scheduling cleaning of functional areas.

Basic computer skills.

Ability to work around large groups of people and still finish work.

Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner.

Frequently operates a personal or City-owned motor vehicle to drive to and from work locations throughout the City. OTHER FUNCTIONS:

Sets up and prepares building for special events.

Other duties as required. --Employees are held accountable for all duties of this job-- SCOPE OF AUTHORITY: Receives direct supervision from the building maintenance lead worker. Daily priorities are established by building maintenance lead worker. Responds to new situations that require immediate attention. Detailed procedures exist to perform this role. Trains other staff members. Adheres to procedures set forth in the security requirement to secure each building and the City of Arvada department and division and procedures. Working Environment / Qualifications

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: The work environment/physical activities described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. Work is primarily performed in an indoor environment with low to moderate noise levels. Physical effort and activities include: strenuous physical work. Heaving, lifting, pushing or pulling of objects up to 51 pounds. Exposure to a variety of weather conditions, noise, chemicals, exposure to sharp objects in trash. MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE): High school diploma or GED equivalency required and 1 year in cleaning or related experience. A valid Colorado driver's license and acceptable driving record is required. Shift work may be required. Must pass a criminal history check, fingerprints, and physical.
