Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Assistant Director for Psychiatric Services, is responsible for evaluation and treatment of a wide range patients presenting to clinic; participates in preventative mental health programs as a consultant and leader of workshops. Provides specialized services a a psychiatrist with evaluations and care of patients relevant to medications and medical illness; decisions concerning hospitalizations and monitoring therein; decisions concerning medical withdrawals and readmissions, Crisis/liaison services, including regular intervention with emergency situations and highly acute patient situations. Supervises advanced practice psychiatric clinical nurse specialists.
Essential Functions
General psychiatric responsibilities and interventions including:
Medication evaluation and follow-up
Evaluations for hospitalizations on and off campus
Supervision of advanced practice psychiatric clinical nurse specialists
Evaluations for medical withdrawals and readmission to campus
Evaluation and treatment with clients having complex medical issues and differential diagnosis, including consultations with other UHS physicians and staff
On-call coverage for stints of 24-120/hour including holidays and weekends
General range of other clinical responsibilities – evaluations, crisis interventions, brief psychotherapies oaf individuals and families
Functional supervision to interns and all others around specialized psychiatric knowledge and other areas of supervision, such as family therapy
Provides community consultations and workshops
Prepares timely documentation of all activities as required
Understands and contributes to implementation of departmental and institutional goals for achieving non-discrimination and creating multicultural environment
Other Functions
Performs other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
MD degree and at least 3 years residency training in psychiatry, including skills specifically relevant to this setting
Board certification or eligibility in psychiatry (certification required within 3 years of hiring)
Medical license in state of Massachusetts, of if out of state, license eligibility with license required by start date
Registration with DEA
Must be credentialed at a local hospital, or become credentialed within six months of hire

Additional Details
Functions independently within broad scope of departmental and institutional policies and goals; refers exceptions to Associate Director (clinical issues) and Director (administrative concerns, reviews and revisions of responsibilities)
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
On-call responsibility requires after hours’ time
