Albany Medical Center Patient Access Specialist - Emergency Department in Albany, New York

Salary Range: $18.00 - $23.79

The Patient Access Specialist is located in the the Adult and Pediatric Emergency Department (PASED) and is a position that must be able to deal in a ‘pressure cooker’ environment. The PASED is a hybrid position combining the Patient Access Representative position and the Health Unit Coordinator position. The position includes but is not limited to: rotating between the Adult and Pediatric Emergency Department; being trained and expected to rotate assignments in 6 disciplines with the Emergency Departments.

Demonstrates stewardship by thoughtful and responsible use of resources including maintaining a clean and hospitable environment, starting work on time, displaying a consciousness regarding costs, supplies and department finances.7. Demonstrates respect for individual differences of each person by acknowledging the essence of each person, appreciating and responding to unique, spiritual, personal and cultural backgrounds of patients, families and colleagues.

Education:

  • Associates preferred

Licensure, Certification & Registration:

  • CHAA recommended

Experience:

  • Strong computer skill

  • Strong insurance knowledge

  • 3 – 5 years experience

  • Hospital Emergency Department experience, preferred

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Must be able to handle a highly stressful environment of a Level I Trauma Center

  • Ability to multi-task in stressful and high patient volume unit; must be able to manage pressure of high intensity situations

  • Good judgement and ability to be resourceful to problem solve; escalate issues as needed

  • Ability to manage contained blood, urine and other bodily fluids

  • Ability to handle a multi-line telephone system; paging required

  • Ability to push 35- 50 lb WOW

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time. (Sneakers are permitted)
