A Brief Overview

Monitors and evaluates equipment, systems and supplies to ensure operational efficiency and reliability of results. Supervise the staff and the technical operations of the cytopathology laboratory. Investigates, writes, and implements technical procedures and policies relative to gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology examination. Establishes and maintains compliance with all applicable health and safety policies (Joint Commission, CAP, State, Federal, and SHC). Assigns work schedules for clinical cytotechnologists and lab technicians. Establishes and maintains quality control practices consistent with state/federal and accrediting agency laws/guidelines. Collaborates with other supervisors and staff in identifying, planning, and implementing performance improvement projects. Functions as a Clinical Cytotechnologist as needed.

What you will do

  • Designs appropriate work schedules for subordinate employees and plans daily work assignments in order to maintain adequate staffing to meet customer service needs.

  • Develops and implements department specific processes/procedures and quality control programs to ensure reliability of testing procedures, proper function of laboratory equipment and compliance to safety/health and state/federal regulations.

  • Perform all human resource management responsibilities such as conducting employee performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, interviews, hiring, disciplining, and termination of employees.

  • Prepares technical reports reflecting department process volume, testing results, analysis, adverse trends, conclusions or recommendations for management and other hospital personnel.

  • Supervises laboratory personnel engaged in performing routine and specialized technical procedures. Plans laboratory work assignments, evaluates work performed and provides direction decisions in handling procedural and technical problems.

  • Perform other duties as requested.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university.

Experience Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions and interpret results.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to develop financial budgets and manage expenses.

  • Ability to evaluate gynecologic, non-gynecologic and fine needle aspiration (FNA).

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, multi-task, and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Ability to supervise, coach, mentor, train, and evaluate work results.

  • Ability to work effectively both as a team player and leader.

  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.

  • Knowledge of infection prevention policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of laboratory controls, methods, procedures and regulations.

  • Knowledge of mathematics general science and laboratory techniques.

  • Knowledge of new technologies (in specific field) and maintain and stay abreast of updates and changes.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $59.14 - $78.37 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
