Smithsonian Institution IT Specialist in United States

Summary The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Human Resources and Administration Systems Division (HRASD), System Modernization, Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), Under Secretary for Administration. Responsibilities The Information Technology Specialist is responsible for managing IT projects and developing software applications, especially pertaining to data management and systems administration. In this position, you will: Lead projects and development for many of SI’s critical reports using the Tableau Business Intelligence Analytical software platform, develop project and system planning documents including project plans that include schedules, budget, and tasks as well as prepares technical review documents, use case specifications (business process workflow) that outline business process workflow for a specific activity, requirements specifications and schedules that satisfy established objectives and standards. Prepare project plans and cost/benefit analyses of proposals by units that are applying for or making use of central funding and or resources and advise management on the comprehensiveness of plans and analyses. Use Tableau Software to develop data analytics and reporting techniques. Conduct technical evaluation studies to support the analysis and implementation of specific functions or issues relating to the application of the Business Intelligence Analytics/Metrics, and reporting technology such as AD integration, 3rd party software integrations, new software upgrades and new features. Use programming languages, techniques and application development environments to design, develop and implement applications in Tableau. Manage the enterprise Tableau software tool for the Smithsonian including the planning for application upgrades as well as overseeing the ongoing system administration, maintenance, and operation of the system. Lead testing exercises, develop process and data models, data dictionaries. And lead scheduled training on advanced Tableau features and functionality for the purpose of sharing knowledge with the units. Qualifications Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as experience developing Smithsonian’s critical Business Intelligence and Data Analytics/Metrics using the Tableau Business Intelligence Analytical software platform. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience.
