Ford Motor Company Optical Engineer - in Vehicle in Nanjing, China

• We are looking for a talented and experienced vehicle Optical Design Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of cutting-edge Display ( HUD/ TFT/ OLED etc) and Augmented Reality (AR) HUD technologies.

• As an Optical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the conceptualization, design, and optimization of optical systems for display units within automotive applications.

  • Lead the design and development of optical systems, including lenses, light guides and diffusers for automotive displays , HUD, AR HUD and sensors, ensuring compliance with high-performance and quality benchmarks.

  • Participate in new project quotations, review supplier product technical solutions for new projects, and lead the Technical Design Review (TDR) with suppliers.

  • Conduct a detailed analysis of the optical system design based on Ford's design requirements and develop comprehensive design guidelines and evaluation standards.

  • Responsible for writing and updating product development plans, including optical system schematics, associated structural, hardware, and software development plans, and ensuring compliance with the overall vehicle development and production timeline.

  • Perform optical performance evaluations and analyses on display products from suppliers, recommending optimizations to enhance system design.

  • Lead the process of design, performance validation, evaluation, and final acceptance of Ford optical systems, actively addressing and resolving issues to achieve industry-leading standards.

  • Assist the factory product development, quality, and plant vehicle teams in resolving optical related issues during product launch and post-sale.

  • Participate in factory car building, providing on-site support to solve Ford optical issues.

  • Participate in the creation of Ford optical design quality documents (Quality History, DFMEA, Control Plan), establishing and improving the quality issue database. Work closely with Ford global optical engineers, discussing and establishing the optical design roadmap together.

• Master Degree or Above,, major in Optical Engineering or Computing Sciences is highly preferred;

• Good knowledge of auto display (HUD, display, OLED, lighting etc) and performance evaluation, familiar with engineering optics, with expertise in visual optical imaging systems design. Skilled in optical design and analysis tools, such as Zemax, TracePro, LightTools, or CODE V, etc

• Minimum of 5 years' experience in optical design, with a strong preference for candidates who have specific experience in vehicle optical design or in the complete design of visual optical imaging systems.

• Solid foundation in engineering optics, with expertise in off-axis reflection systems and imaging-level freeform surface design.

• Familiarity with the industry standards and regulations specific to automotive optical design, as well as reliability design standards and methodologies for automotive products.

• Proficiency in optical design and analysis software, such as Zemax, TracePro, LightTools, or CODE V, with the ability to effectively leverage these tools in the design and evaluation of optical systems.

• Ability to communicate with customers in English, fluent in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
