Our newly formed organization, Microsoft AI (MAI), focuses on Copilot and other consumer AI products and research. The wider team is responsible for Copilot, Bing, Edge, and generative AI research. Responsibilities

  • Cares deeply about building world-class AI applications that will delight users.

  • Make hands-on contributions to our cloud services codebase.

  • Build and lead a team of software engineers, including driving project planning, prioritization of work, and designing features.

  • Support, mentor, and help engineers grow, building a truly inclusive team environment where everyone can deliver their best work.

  • Advocate for and maintain a culture of high-quality software development, with a focus on efficient DevOps, customer support processes, and automation.

  • Analyze telemetry and usage data to inform product decisions and troubleshoot issues.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience developing cloud services using Python, TypeScript, C#, C++, or Java

  • o OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years of experience running and working with distributed systems and on services at scale.

  • 4+ years of experience working on cloud services and infrastructure.

  • 3+ years of experience in managing, leading, and inspiring a team of engineers, including hiring, retaining, and managing performance.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience developing cloud services using Python, TypeScript, C#, C++, or Java

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience developing cloud services using Python, TypeScript, C#, C++, or Java

  • o OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years people management experience.

  • Experience with streaming media.

  • Experience working with AI platforms, frameworks, and APIs.

  • Experience building and using cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).

  • Proven experience in defining the roadmap, strategy, and go-to-market plans for a cloud service.

  • Experience building performant scalable services.

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers.

  • Commitment to learning new technologies and staying up to date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in mobile development and AI.

  • Proven ability to collaborate and contribute to a positive, inclusive work environment, fostering knowledge sharing and growth within the team.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
