The Cross-cutting Urgent Innovation Cell (CUIC) is a team consisting of analysts, scientists, innovators, and engineers focused on delivering meaningful solutions to national security challenges. We concentrate on rapid prototyping, mission analysis, experimentation, and research together in a unique environment that is structured to optimize results and leverage our strong relationships with our customers and their missions to drive innovation that helps solve our nation's biggest challenges.

Roles & Responsibilities:

A Lead Space Systems Operations Research Analyst needed who possesses a breadth of technical skills, strong programming capability, and professional experience across the domain of Space Operations and Space Systems. This position requires expertise in modeling, simulation, and analysis tools at the intersection of math, physics, engineering, and programming. The lead will form cross-cutting initiatives in space system analysis, experimentation, and mission engineering, working collaboratively across the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, and MITRE space leads and lead teams of engineers and scientist to execute. The individual will also work with leadership in space warfighting to help shape strategies, key initiatives, and internal research & development and the Cross-Cutting Urgent Innovation Cell (CUIC) leadership to lead and mentor upcoming junior staff.

Basic Qualifications:

  • An active TS/SCI security clearance. Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

  • Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Typically requires a degree in physics, applied mathematics, aerospace, software development for engineering/physical systems, mechanical engineering, or related discipline and work experience with a strong technical background

  • Demonstrated experience with modeling, simulation, and analysis of space systems and space-related operations.

  • Understanding of space-related physics and engineering concepts, for example, orbital mechanics, satellite propagation, space-based ISR, satellite communications, space domain awareness, etc.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in a programming language such as C/C++, Java, Python, MATLAB, or Fortran. 

  • Demonstrated proficiency with modeling and simulation tools such as AFSIM, SEAS, or STORM. 

  • Ability to proactively formulate key analytical questions to drive modeling, simulation, experimentation, and prototyping.

  • Proficiency in DoD and IC space sponsors and their role in the development, acquisition, and operational lifecycle and the ability to work across to achieve higher level strategic objectives.

  • Experience with understanding & presenting simulation results to senior decision-makers to drive action and outcomes.

  • Hands-on experience in adapting research done in academia and industry to "real-world" challenging data sources and problems sets.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams of cross-disciplinary engineers and scientists.

  • Ability to create cross-cutting strategies and form initiatives.

  • Ability to work with, lead, and mentor a cohort of technically focused junior staff (under 5 years work experience) through sponsor landscapes, analysis, and other opportunities for growth

  • This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters or PhD with research experience in one of the above specified degree programs
