Position Summary

The Department of Teacher Education at Michigan State University is seeking outstanding candidates for anticipated fixed-term (non-tenure stream) field instructor faculty positions in the elementary, secondary, and special education teacher preparation programs. Positions may be part-time or full-time (academic one-year appointment, August through May). Primary responsibilities may be in the Lansing area or at university off-campus sites in the Grand Rapids, Southeast Michigan areas.

Responsibilities include: Working with teacher candidates and their mentor teachers during a year-long internship required by MSU for initial teacher certification; a demonstrated commitment to social justice and educational equity as centerpieces of the MSU teacher preparation program; observation of classroom-based work; communication; meetings and assessment of each intern's progress in accordance with program standards and assessment tools; serving as liaison with P-12 partners under the direction of an area coordinator; providing high-quality program assessment, ongoing program improvement, and accreditation. Submission of records related to observation visits and debriefing, communications, professional development and other important markers of intern progress or challenges; ability to manage/orchestrate difficult conversations across various educational stakeholders; and participation in professional learning activities provided by the program to support the effective enactment of responsibilities. Position rank will be at the level of Instructor (if applicant has master's degree) or Assistant Professor (if applicant has a terminal degree), depending on qualifications. Appointment will be for one year beginning fall 2022, with possibility for reappointment.

Minimum Requirements

Masters degree in a relevant field or relevant previous experience.  Position rank will be at the level of Instructor (if applicant has master's degree) or Assistant Professor (if applicant has a terminal degree), depending on qualifications.

Desired Qualifications

A doctoral degree in a relevant field. Appropriate PK-12 teaching experience and relevant college-level teaching, specifically in elementary, secondary, or special education; experience working with teaching interns and PK-12 district partners and community organizations; experience guiding masters and doctoral students in curriculum and instruction in elementary, secondary, or special education teacher preparation. Experience teaching in urban schools or high-need communities.
