Test Laboratory Engineer

Reports To

Senior Manager, Engineering Services

Position Summary

With little to no supervision, supports design and fabrication of custom test systems according to engineering specifications for development and verification testing of medical devices. Collaborates and directs project team activities to achieve successful test system deliverables.

Key Areas of Responsibility

The successful candidate will be responsible for inspection related activities to support New Product Development and Introduction process, including, but not limited to the following:

  • Coordinates with test lab and product design engineers to evaluate outputs and deliverables for integrity, function, durability and usability of test systems

  • Analyses documentation and confers with test lab and product engineering staff to resolve details not completely captured or defined in specifications.

  • Will create and maintain test system documentation, including prints, user manuals and preventative maintenance procedures.

  • Able to lead and collaborate with team of test systems engineers to provide efficient and cost-effective design solutions

  • Will organize and lead project SCRUM meetings

  • Will write and expedite engineering change requests.

  • Reviews and corrects engineering documents and supporting documents to verify design integrity and adherence to company and industry standard.

  • Understands and incorporates design for manufacturability

  • Will direct and interact with internal and external partners to complete the fabrication and assembly of test systems.

  • Will track purchases and expenditures for projects

  • Will support and lead qualification and validation activities for equipment as required

  • Able to trouble shoot and modify equipment as needed to meet user requirements

  • Able to help prioritize work load for project team with department leadership

  • Able to prepare time and cost estimates for projects

  • Will submit periodic reports on assigned topics to appropriate personnel.

  • Will assist in the training of others on design related topics.

  • May mentor and coach lesser experienced employees

  • Will research and incorporate new technology related to testing and areas of expertise.

Qualifications Knowledge Skills

Bachelor's degree in engineering field. Preferably Mechanical, Electrical and/or computer science.

Excellent analytical skills.

Excellent CAD (ProE, SolidsWorks, AutoCAD electrical)

Proficient use of common fabrication equipment

Excellent Software skills in LabVIEW and/or Python.

Effective interpersonal communication skills.

Excellent mechanical/electrical/software design solving skills, including reliability fault detection/isolation techniques.

Experience in developing hardware (or software) to control multi actuator electro-mechanical systems

Test Lab/ Test System design experience preferred
