Position Summary:

Performs responsible and professional work in providing support to in-house Legal Counsel through analysis and research pertaining to the organization's legal issues and concerns.

Performs duties in alignment with the 2019 - 2024 COTA Strategic Plan and in support of the organization's vision To Move Every Life Forward.

This Position is Responsible For:

  • Provides assistance to Counsel in the Legal Division in a variety of areas, including personal injury, employment and labor, contracts and general corporate matters; performs legal research;

  • Assists in monitoring compliance with all local, state and federal laws, including ADA compliance;

  • Responds to public records requests that are made pursuant to Ohio Revised Code 149.43;

  • Reviews records retention schedules and assists in revising and updating schedules and taking appropriate steps to have records retention schedules finalized.

  • Assists Counsel in assembling responsive records and responding to legal service requests;

  • Files complaints, motions, pleadings in municipal and common pleas courts.

  • Prepares legal pleadings, motions, statements, trial briefs, etc.; conducts examinations of legal records;

  • Assists with collection activities, including debtor location and execution of judgments including possession of property and wage garnishments;

  • Drafts and analyzes proposed and/or existing contracts, prepares legal documents, and reviews company policies; and,

  • Review and process attorney - client incident reports.

    At Minimum You'll Need:

  • Requires attendance in or graduation from an ABA accredited law school.

  • Legal Intern certificate/licensure preferred but not required.
