Boehringer Ingelheim Principal Engineer, Facilities (Electrical) in Athens, Georgia

Description

The function of Principal Engineer, Facilities Electrical is to operate within the Maintenance group in a technical, multi-discipline capacity to support vaccine manufacturing operations at the Athens facility. The Facilities Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance of the site utility system, which includes but is not limited to water systems, Plant steam, Clean Steam Generators, HVAC, compressed air/gases, chillers, and power generators. In addition, the role will be responsible for developing as well as updating procedures and PMs to further improve reliability. This role is also responsible for managing the site proactive obsolescence plan. This includes the execution of required investments as defined by the obsolescence plan as well as supporting those executed by others. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the reliable operation of all utilities on site.

  • Technical analysis of the systems, technology fit, capacity and utilization, economic viability, and sustainable design.

  • Responsible for the site proactive obsolescence program developed to improve uptime and efficiency of site infrastructure through use of life cycle evaluation, criticality analysis, trend evaluation, root cause analysis, failure rate analysis and comparison to industry norms

  • Develop and optimize equipment 1) PM scope and frequency, 2) calibration scope and frequency, and 3) spare parts inventory using risk-based methodologies

  • Participate as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in capital projects

  • Leads small capital projects to improve under-performing or high-risk critical equipment/system

  • Leads the execution of Quality and Health/Safety/Environmental audit/initiative related CAPAs

  • Leads deviation and change control processes for the Maintenance group

  • Supports the execution of maintenance and repairs performed by outside contractors

  • Site shutdown planning and coordination efforts

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or related field plus 5 or more years of maintenance/engineering experience.

  • Understanding of EHS requirements as they relate to the site. OSHA specific knowledge is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of relevant BI processes and guidelines as well as Site/Local and Corporate Policies and Procedures.

  • Able to manage a multi-functional disciplines, regulatory environment, conflicting priorities, analysis, and innovation

  • Hands on experience with utilities system/equipment (water systems, Plant steam, Clean Steam Generators, HVAC, compressed air/gases, chillers, and power generators).

  • Strong team orientation and ability to work cross functionally with various groups such as Safety, Quality, Maintenance, Purchasing, Industrial Development, GI, and Manufacturing.

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and automation technical documentation (P&IDs, schematics, ladder logic, etc.) and experience troubleshooting these systems.

  • Knowledge of risk assessment, root cause investigation, change control, equipment validation.

  • Ability to execute multi-discipline assignments and ability to master new skills quickly.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and direction.

  • Ability to communicate information using tact and persuasion as appropriate requiring strong oral and written communication skills, organization, and leadership

  • Experience using Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, CMMS (SAP, MP2)

  • Ability to lead project teams and apply good project management techniques.

  • Experience overseeing contractor activities.

  • Experience using Visio, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD.

  • Experience with FDA / USDA / cGxP regulations, equipment changes, control practices, and related quality systems.
